Guest posts should be a minimum of 1000 words. While there is no max length, submissions may be edited for brevity.
Guest posts should be spelling & grammar checked prior to submission, and may be submitted directly via WordPress for those who are familiar with it, or in plain text via email or attached Word document. I may add relevant links, text formatting, and editing to match the feel of Modern Soapmaking’s existing content.
I will add a post image to each submitted post that follows the current format. If you would like to submit an image to be used for your post, it must be 1600 x 1000 pixels and 144 DPI.
If you are sharing a tutorial or other article that requires images to be included, they should be a minimum dimension of 800 x 500 pixels (1600 x 1000 is preferred), and be well-lit, clear, and quality photographs. If they must include a watermark, please place it in the lower right hand corner that does not obstruct the image in any way. Please attach images to your submission via email as individual images, with appropriate file names, and note where they should be placed in the article by inserting the file name in the appropriate location inline. (i.e. <Place Image: Soapy_Picture_of_Doom.jpg Here>)
Tutorials must follow the formatting guidelines, including an introduction to the tutorial, the ingredients used in both U.S. Standard and/or metric and percentage expressions with reference to their supplier, accompanying step-by-step instructions with clear photographs. For an example of this format, please check out this tutorial featured on Modern Soapmaking.
Attribution & Payment Information:
Contributing authors must submit a short bio of 50 to 100 words, and include up to three relevant links to their online presence (website, social media, etc.).
Contributing author bio photographs are automatically pulled from Gravatar. If you have an existing Gravatar username, please let me know what email address to connect your bio to. If you do not have a Gravatar account, you may set one up and provide me the email address to include a headshot with your post. Author bios without a Gravatar account linked to them will display a default empty headshot graphic.
One-time submissions are accepted on a volunteer basis. Contributing authors of more than one article are offered monetary compensation for each accepted & published submission after their first contribution, with an additional allowance for supplies if the article is a soapmaking/bath & body tutorial.
I appreciate when guest contributors check-in on their article within one week of publishing to respond to comments left by readers. It is not required, but Modern Soapmaking’s readers enjoy connecting with the author themselves.
I will share your post via my email subscriber base and my main social media channels (Facebook and Twitter). I ask that you please do the same by sharing your published post via your newsletter and/or social media, if relevant.
