Week three of Amy’s Soap Challenge 2013 is coming to a close, and we have one more week to go. But – there is a week break here, so it’ll be another week for we start the next challenge! I can’t wait! So far, we have hit up the tiger stripe and the elemental swirl.
Before I get ahead of myself, let’s check out week three: oil mica swirl tops on soap!
I think oil mica swirls have been around for awhile, but Emily at Shieh Design Studio has definitely helped to push their popularity with her fancy stylings. The retired line of soaps here at Amathia Soapworks all featured mica on top, so I’m no stranger to the beautiful shimmer it can lend.
The technique can give so many different results depending on how many colors you use, how thick the raw soap is, how you texture the top, etc. My favorite method is to texture my soap, and then drizzle and swirl the oil mica mixture in, so that is how I did my challenge soap. 🙂
My challenge was incorporating the rainbow theme into this week, as I know from experience that trying to swirl rainbow oil mica onto 2″ wide bars is NOT fun. So here’s what I decided to do:
The full collection of challenge soaps will be available as the Full Spectrum Soap Gift Collection very soon! One more challenge soap to add to the mix, and we’re all set!
I absolutely loved working with Jenn, she was a breeze and totally willing to custom tailor my order for my needs. Plus, don’t they just look so spiffy?! Her specialty is working with designs for kids, like custom partyware, favor bags, and more. Her designs are modern but cute, definitely will be coming back for more!
